Academic Innovations, founded in 1990, is a mission-oriented publishing company that has worked with schools and colleges across the country to launch their freshmen with a unique, comprehensive guidance course. Starting with our successful high school curriculum that has garnered awards from the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Labor in 2012, this proven course material was adapted and greatly expanded for use with college freshmen.
Academic Innovations partnered with The George Washington University Freshman Transition initiative, and using their Freshman Transition Standards, upgraded this unique 2- to 3-unit course that promotes college completion by providing a classroom-based, in-depth guidance experience that culminates with students creating a personalized online 10-year Career and Education Plan and a Skills-Based Education Plan.
In addition, working in collaboration with the dual enrollment department of Santa Barbara City College, co-winner of the 2013 Aspen Institute Award for Community College Excellence, the curriculum was used as the foundation course of the Get Focused...Stay Focused!® program that was cited in the Aspen report. This college/high school collaboration model has been used in over 400 high school/college partnerships.
